SENSORi offers services to children of all ages from babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers and school-aged children.
The “occupation” of children is to thrive, and occupational therapists or OT’s work with children and their families to facilitate participation and independence in activities that are important to children- learning, playing and interacting.
OT’s work closely with children and their families to gain a thorough understanding of the child's typical development and the environments in which they engage, including home, school, and the playground.
Through play, we work on sensory integration, fine and gross motor skills, visual perceptual skills, concentration, handwriting, social and emotional skills.
We offer in-depth assessment and quality, individualised treatment, incorporating effective, evidence based treatment strategies.
We provide services for children with a wide-range of needs, encompassing:
Usually with just the parent/s.
We use this time to help us fully understand the parents concerns and how best we can help the child and the family.
The parent/caregiver/teacher may be asked to complete paperwork before or during the session, such as a questionnaire on the child's developmental milestones, current daily functioning and a sensory profile
After this, and evaluation will take place.
During the evaluation, both standardised assessments as well as clinical observations are used to assess the child's current skills and abilities.
The specific evaluation depends on the age of the child, current concerns and other factors.
Once the assessment is done, a feedback is arranged.
In the feedback, the findings are discussed and recommendations are given.
Together, we map a way forward.
A comprehensive report is also provided.
If treatment is decided upon, the length of the session is dependent on the age and abilities of each individual child.
Therapy aims to improve the underlying areas of weakness and retraining of skills causing concerns, especially when they influence the child’s independence and functioning within the environment (home, school, play, emotional and social interaction).
Take a look at our therapy room
A therapy ‘play’ room must be a haven for children. A place that they want to come to!
Children must be able to explore and use their bodies in a non-threatening and safe way, in order to build confidence and skills.
In this play room-
creativity grows,
minds develop,
bodies strengthen and
confidence blooms!
